Ian Taylor discusses radical social theory and the legacy of critical criminology in Europe. In his view, it is vital to undertake this analysis of the new post-Fordist economy in a coldly realistic fashion — paying regard to actual developments such as the post-Fordist labor markets unfolding in North America, Europe, and elsewhere – without anticipating any necessary endpoint, or “revolutionary moment,” in these developments. Indeed, the arrival of a market society organized along post-Fordist lines may have a permanence that could not be claimed by Fordism itself.
