Local Union Transformation: Analyzing Issues of Race, Gender, Class and Democracy
Fernando Gapasin demonstrates the interconnections between issues of race, gender, age, and politics. Successful union transformations and subsequent strategies require a rigorous examination of the intersection of race, gender, and class. To do this, union leaders must critically examine the union’s governance structure and organizational culture. Most important, union leaders must be self-reflective and force themselves to examine their own social encasement in order to break with the racial project of “whiteness.”
