Description
The Children’s Movement for Peace in Colombia
Calle’s statement to the Hague Appeal for Peace (May 12, 1999) on behalf of the Children’s Movement for Peace in Colombia emphasizes children’s right to peace. In November 1996, 2,700,000 Colombian children voted for this. A year later, 10 million Colombian adults voted for peace, life, and liberty in a citizens’ mandate (mandato ciudadano), demanding that “the actors of the armed conflict should stop involving children in the war, that they should end torture, that there should be no more threats, no kidnapping, no massacres, and no more displacement of the civilian population from their homes.”
