Environmental Victims and Resistance to State Crime Through Transnational Activism

At the core of this article is a central paradox relating to the nature of environmental activism and victim action. The state is a major perpetrator and facilitator of much environmental harm, and thus an active contributor to environmental victimization. Yet, much activism and victim action is nevertheless directed at the same state. The state is thus both transgressor and key defender of human and ecological rights. The implications of this dual and paradoxical relationship are explored from the point of view of a global ecological citizenship.
